A.L.I. Oratorical Contest

Oratorical Contest

The Charles E. Williams II Advanced Leadership Institute is sponsoring an Oratorical Contest for the 24th Southwestern Black Student Leadrship Conference. Leaders are taking steps towards redefining the preconceived notions of what a leader looks like, the qualities possessed by them, and the way they effectively reach their followers.

The Oratorical Contest is aimed at challenging and stimulating the minds of its participants as well as providing the opportunity to display their talent of speaking and interpreting their ideas on a specific subject.

The SBSLC Advanced Leadership Institute’s Oratorical Contest has truly become one of the conference’s most paramount events. This Oratorical Contest is entitled "The Great Debate"- NOT to be confused with an actual debate. With its new name, this year’s contest is sure to raise the bar.

2012 Topic

"The Great Debate"

In today’s society Black Americans are often faced with challenges due to their inability to better themselves as individuals. Budget cuts, the quality of schools, teacher salaries, student academic preparation, disciplinary issues, and students’ home lives are a few of the challenges manifested in our nation’s school system. In what ways can the American educational system be refined?
