2024-2025 Conference Awards

The purpose of SBSLC is to inspire and equip student leaders to make a positive difference on their respective campuses, communities, or organizations. The 2024-2025 SBSLC Executive Staff will continue the tradition of recognizing those who have applied the information and tools learned at SBSLC to create positive change.

The Carreathers-Scott Innovative Advisor Award

Named after the founding advisor of SBSLC, Kevin Carreathers, and one of the founding students of SBSLC, the late Douglas Scott, this award aims to recognize outstanding advisors who selflessly dedicate and commit themselves to the development of student leaders. The goal of the 2024-2025 Executive Staff of SBSLC is to recognize the amazing advisors who make it their life’s work to pour into Black student leaders. Students will submit an online application and a 1-2 minute video explaining why their advisor exemplifies an outstanding and innovative advisor. The Carreathers-Scott Award recipient will have their bios, pictures, and/or videos displayed on the SBSLC website. The recipient will also be recognized during the SBSLC Closing Banquet.

  • The advisor must be registered for the conference by December 5, 2024.

The “Torchbearer” Award

Inspired by the theme of the 2025 SBSLC, Uniting Flames to Spark Achievement, the Torchbearer Award, is an accolade in recognition of the leadership and impact of a single student. Through student involvement, academic achievement, and selfless service, the recipient of the Torchbearer Award serves as an embodiment of black excellence. The Torchbearer Award recipient will be selected for their strong desire and commitment to initiate change in the black community.

The “Radiant Flame” Award is inspired by the theme of the 2024-2025 SBSLC, The Uniting Flames to Spark Achievement. All change starts with a plan, but it takes special leaders to put plans into action. The “Radiant Flame” Award is an accolade in recognition of the achievements and cultural impact of a student organization. Staying true to the mission and purpose of the organization and making a campus-wide impression, the recipient organization of the “Radiant Flame” Award strives to enhance and uplift the community that they serve.

  • The organization must have a minimum of two members at the 2025 Southwestern Black Student Leadership Conference.
  • The organization representatives must be registered for the conference by December 5, 2024.
